RAIN WATER HARVESTING

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Rain water harvesting is  a technique  of capturing  and  storing  of  rainwater  for  further utilization .Its objectives  are  to meet  the  increasing  demands  of  water, to raise  water  table  by  recharging  the  ground  water, to  reduce  the  ground  water  contamination  from  the  intrusion  of saline water, to  reduce  the surface  run  off  loss, to reduce  storm  water run off and  soil  erosion, to increase  hydrostatic  pressure to stop  land subsidence  and  to  minimize  water  crisis and  water  conflicts.  Rain water harvesting   involves  collecting water  that fall son  the  roof of the house  during rain  and conveying  it  through  PVCore  Aluminium  pipe  to  a nearby  covered  storage  unit. The  rain water yield varies with  the  size  and  texure  of the  catchment area. Before adapting  rain water harvesting method,  the  soil  characteristics ,topography,  rain fall pattern  and  climatic  conditions should  be understood. The most   common method  is  rooftop rain water  harvesting. It is the low  cost and  effective  technique  for  urban houses  and buildings. The rainwater is diverted  into  the  surface tanks  or  recharge  pits  where  the  base  is filled   with  stones  and sand  , which serves  as a sand  filter. The advantages  are   reduction  in  the  use  of current  for  pumping  water,  . Increasing  ground  water  levels,    minimizing  the  soil  erosion  and  flood  hazards. Thus it helps to upgrade  social and environmental status  assuring  water  to  the  future  generation.

I hope everybody knows what a NEWS PAPER is but I don’t think everybody knows that there a expansion for it. Let me give some information about it, It is North East West South Past And Previous Events Report. Even though internet has all the above information but there are many places where you cannot get access to a internet in those kind of places news papers acts like a savior.

GLOBAL WARMING

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The increased  inputs  of  co2 and  other  green house  gases into  the  atmosphere  from  human  activities will  enhance  the  earth’s  natural greenhouse  effect  of  raising  the  average  global  temperature  of the  atmosphere near  the  earth’s  surface.  This enhanced  green  house  effect  is  called     GLOBALWARMING.A s  a  result   glaciers  melt and  thermal expansion   of  the  ocean  occurs. A 20cm  rise   is   expected  in  sea  level    by  2030.It  has  a long  term  negative  effect  on  crop  production and  forest  growth. As  climatic  pattern shifts rain fall  reduced  soils are  dried  out resulting  in  major  drought. Many  plants  and  animals  will  have  problems  in  adapting. This  will  influence  the mix  of  species at  different  locations .Many  will  be  at  risk   from  extinction,  whereas   more  tolerant  varieties   will  thrive.  There  would  be  increase  in  water  borne  diseases,  infectious  disease   carried  by  mosquitoes other  diseases  vectors.     The climate  change  might  cause some  eco systems  to  exceed  critical  thresholds and  result  in  irreversible  decline. Measures  to  check  global  warming  are        – reducing  use  of  fossil  fuels,   implement  energy  conservation  methods,       utilize  renewable  re sources   such  as wind  solar  and  hydropower,  planting   more  trees,      shifting  from  coal  to  natural gas,   adopting  sustainable  agriculture,    stabilizing  population  growth,      effective  removal  of co2 from  smoke  stacks  and removing   atmosphreric  co2    by  utilizing  photosynthetic   algae.
